The ceremony took place at the Carbo One headquarters in the Oval building, Limassol.
Carbo One Limited, being a socially responsible company, actively supports cultural, sporting and charity events around the globe and clearly recognizes the crucial importance of participating in events aimed at developing a harmonious and healthy society in the modern world.
During the grand ceremony, the meeting participants, including the President of the Olympic Committee of Cyprus and athletes, had the opportunity to discuss pressing issues of preparation for the Olympics, share their plans and highlight the importance of the opportunity to implement their sportive achievements and ambitions thanks to Carbo One’s sponsorship and support.
The Member of the Board of Carbo One Ltd Katerina Christou addressed the guests and stressed in her speech that Carbo One is honored and proud to have the opportunity to become the Major Sponsor of the Olympic Committee of Cyprus as well as to support the program “Adopt an athlete on the way to Tokyo 2020,” by sponsoring the gymnastic team of four athletes. “Victoria Skittides, Marios Georgiou, Tom Nicolaou and Ilias Georgiou we welcome you to the family of Carbo One, your sponsor on your way to Tokyo. This road is going to be difficult and hard, but this does not mean that it will be impossible. We all count on you and believe in you and your success. You are a young, very promising team, and I have no doubt that you will do your best to achieve victory”.
The President of the Olympic Committee, Dinos Michaelides, expressed his gratitude towards Carbo One Ltd. for the important funding, stressing that it will greatly help the athletes and the Committee itself to overcome practical issues and face up to its obligations and commitments in view of the coming Olympics. “Such financing gives us hope, courage and strength to continue to move forward,” he noted.
Katerina Christou also stated: “As we all know Olympism is a philosophy of life, which places sport at the service of humankind and its vision in building a better world through sport. A wise poet once said that “politics is the art of the possible, creativity is the art of the impossible.” I say to you that sports can succeed, where politics may fail, at nurturing a national culture and consciousness of a people”.
She ended her speech with a quote from Herb Elliott, the legendary world’s middle-distance runner of his era: “It is the inspiration of the Olympic Games that drives people not only to compete but to improve, and to bring lasting spiritual and moral benefits to the athlete and inspiration to those lucky enough to witness the athletic dedication”.
